The same day Congress passed a $484B Coronavirus relief bill, Reps. Earl Blumenauer (D-Oregon) and Earl Perlmutter (D-Colorado) introduced a bill that would make state-legal cannabis business eligible for the next round of relief.
As that bill ain’t gonna pass itself, lobbyists have sprung into action.
The Hill/MJ Biz Daily
- Previously, lobbying efforts had been focused primarily on easing banking restrictions. Now, in addition to lobbying on behalf of the relief bill itself, there’s been a shift to SBA eligibility, and making certain cannabis companies are operating legally under their respective state laws should the funds come.
- On April 17, more than two dozen lawmakers joined Reps. Blumenauer and Perlmutter in urging House leadership to include cannabis businesses in the upcoming round of relief.
- Timing on the next bill — also expected to be massive — is entirely in the hands of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who says it will not be negotiated until the body returns to full session.
- The children’s picture book It’s Just a Plant turned 15 this week. Still not old enough to smoke the stuff, but old enough for a re-release.
